Pop Art Movement

March 9th, 2010

The movement of the Pop Art was in Britain and in America in 1950s and 60s. As a result there appeared a lot of products of mass media. This network is considered to derive from pop culture but it won huge popularity all over the United States and was called a major artistic movement in the 20th century. Before that period there was a strong barrier between high art and mass culture. The barrier was broken down by artworks that based on television, advertising and comic books. In the second part of the 20th century America turned into culture of commercial manipulation. A lot of artists found the USA a perfect place where they can express their thoughts and emotions, create a masterpiece. Artists were looking for fun at the serious nature in the world of art. They were capable to depict the society the way it was.

In Britain the situation was a bit different because British artists took the approach that was more romantic. Some researchers even considered that movement to be a counterattack on Abstract Expressionism. In reality pop art movement managed to usurp French Dada movement at time when it had a battle against the highbrow art. However, pop art movement and Dada movement had some things in common. First of all, both movements used the same common items that were the subject matter. What is more, the artists of both of the movements proffered commercial methods of production. At the same time they allowed ultimate reproductions. At that period appeared such superstars as Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and others.

Pop art is considered to be a combination of such elements as low cost, shiny nature to encourage big money. What is more, pop art combines its mass produced and bright light come calling. There are a lot of critics that can explain which art is really popular and which is not. However, only each person decides what to enjoy.

Since pop art is accessible for everybody it is not difficult to try to become a pop artist. What is more, pop art consists of a lot of sub categories and very unusual mediums. Since time passes it seems to be very obvious that present American art is oriented on the youth. It means that future belongs to pop art. There are different reasons for becoming pop art so popular among the masses. The main reason for that is that the lines between art., pop culture and commercialism have become blurring.

Nowadays there is a chance to find a display of the work of pop artist anywhere. Popular cultures together with art gain more and more popularity. As a result they each year it grows on exponential rate.
